June 15-20, 2010 - CTCI International Convention - "Birds and Planes...The Wright Place Again in Twenty-Ten", Dayton, Ohio
See below (in the Non-Sanctioned section) for more fun things to do on your way to the Convention!
Hosted by the Ohio Valley Early Birds, CTCI Chapter 68, the 2010 International Convention will be held at the Hope Hotel and Convention Center on Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The Hotel was named after Bob Hope and is the only hotel on a military reservation that is open to the public. Located on a military base provides for a very secure event location, the Hope Hotel was host to the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords. For hotel reservations phone (937) 879-2696 or go to www.hopehotel.com, use promo code: EarlyBirds (no space), One Queen Bed $80 or Two Double Beds for $90/night (plus applicable taxes and surcharges). Note: Concours d'Elegance deadline is May 15th, no exceptions.
Dayton, Ohio is the 'Birthplace of Aviation' and our convention is focused on the many historical aviation locations and museums unique to our community. Visitors come to Dayton from around the world to experience the history of our mighty battle for Freedom displayed at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. This is a mammoth museum and is the main attraction for holding the International Convention in Dayton. The Hotel is on the East end of WPAFB and the Museum is on the West end of the Base, a distance of about 5 miles. Saturday morning we will line up all the T-Birds that wish to caravan to special parking at the museum. If you don't wish to drive your ‘Bird, you may follow the caravan in your own vehicle or ride the chartered bus for a round trip fee of $10 per seat.
Tuesday will be a day for early arrivals and recovery for those who had a long travel day, or wish to clean their cars ahead of time so they may attend the following day's events.
Wednesday is a day for registration, hospitality room, CTCI Membership and Board meetings (also open to all members), and an evening Welcome Party.
Thursday will start off with an Aviation Tour on a charted bus to the Huffman Prairie Flying Field, which is where the Wright Brothers learned how to fly, the Wright Memorial, and an included lunch at the Carillon Park that has 24 historical attractions. Early registrations show this to be a popular event, so the Tour will NOT be cancelled. The bus will return to the hotel in time for the judge's training, which is mandatory for all who will be judging in Friday's Concours. The evening entertainment will be a nationally known Rock-n-Roll Band performing 50's and 60's music, and it's free.
Friday begins with a short, but mandatory Owners and Judges meeting and then it's on to the Concours. All Judges will be served lunch and those not wishing to partake in the Concours may go on a chartered bus fun shopping trip to the Greene. We also have sufficient early enrollment so that this shopping trip will NOT be cancelled. Another evening of superb entertainment to be enjoyed for free.
Saturday starts with a swap meet, then the above-mentioned caravan to the Air Force Museum, and ending with the Awards Banquet.
Sunday will be a hospitality room farewell and good-bye to good friends.
